‘Endless learning opportunities’ at Sentara for long-time team member
Tiffany Corpuz began her Sentara career in 2005. Two degrees later and after holding a variety of positions, she has moved her way up to senior revenue integrity analyst and with an unpredictable set of responsibilities.
“I love the fact that I do a little bit of everything. I appreciate the unpredictability, the problem-solving, the networking, the creative aspects and, of course, the relationships,” says Tiffany, who works at the Military Circle revenue office in Norfolk. “Working in healthcare has challenged me in more ways than I ever imagined. Each day can bring a variety of tasks and endless learning opportunities.”
After starting as an office service assistant for medical care management, Tiffany navigated her way through several other positions, including “superuser” for the eCare pilot program, charge integrity specialist and revenue specialist. Along the way, she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in healthcare administration by utilizing Sentara’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP).
Tiffany’s initial interest in the healthcare industry started at a young age. When she was 8 years old, her dad was hospitalized after undergoing brain surgery. Her time visiting him in the hospital combined with her mom’s job in healthcare billing and coding made a powerful impact. “I became fascinated with wanting to work in healthcare from then on,” says Tiffany.
Today, her team’s primary responsibility is to maintain an accurate and compliant charge description master, which is a comprehensive listing of items that can be billed to a patient, payer or healthcare provider. She also handles many other revenue-cycle initiatives.
Tiffany and her husband, Paul – who live in the Kempsville area of Virginia Beach – were high school sweethearts and have been together for 22 years. She had their first child, Jessilyn, 19, when she was a teenager and graduated high school with honors. The couple later had two sons, Jaceb, 15 and Jordan, 6. When she’s not at work, Tiffany and her daughter enjoy rescuing and rehabilitating bearded dragons and have seven of them at home.
