Linwood Holden
Team Leaders

Linwood Holden knows the phrase “there’s no I in team” can sound like a cliché to some, but to Linwood it’s a commitment to each and every person on his team.

“As team leaders, it’s important for us to lead by example,” says Linwood, a Plant & Engineering Team Leader at Sentara CarePlex Hospital. “That’s why I lead as part of the team and not as someone who is above the team. Having that level of respect for everyone ensures that individuals have a voice and are able to succeed together.”

Linwood has been an essential member of every team he has been a part of, starting when he joined the Navy. He served for 20 years and was deployed during Operations Desert Shield and Storm, so he understands what it means to show up for the person standing next to you.

We really are a family in a lot of ways at Sentara,” Linwood says. “We may argue and fuss at each other occasionally, but if anyone needs anything – at work or at home – we are always there to provide support and a kind word.”

After leaving the military, Linwood decided to work in health care and realized it was perfect for him because he could help people in need. He hasn’t looked back since then and has been with Sentara for more than 20 years. He first started as a journeyman electrician before working his way up to master electrician and eventually team leader.

“I love working at Sentara because I feel aligned with their values and purpose. When you feel fulfilled each day, it creates a satisfaction that echoes through the rest of your life.”

Linwood was born and raised in Philadelphia and after retiring from the Navy, decided to stay in Hampton, VA where he has built a life with his wife of 37 years. They have three children, eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild. When he’s not spending time with his family, Linwood enjoys volunteering in his community and at his church.
