Project Manager

Finding someone who’s worked for decades at the same company is pretty rare. But Jean Glovacz, who began working for Sentara in 2001 as a secretary, has spent the last 21 years making a huge impact at Sentara. Jean is now a Project Manager for Sentara Medical Group.

Shortly after the death of her young daughter, Jean accepted a job as a secretary in employee health, partly due to the care and compassion they received at Sentara during that difficult time.

“Sentara’s mission is to care for everyone who walks through our doors,” she says. “I saw it as a mother, and I’ve seen it as an employee. It’s rare to find a job where people are invested in you as a person and a professional, and I’m thankful for ending up here.”

In her time at Sentara, Jean has held a variety of positions and has used tuition assistance to earn several degrees, including a master’s degree. She currently works on improving existing practices and setting up new ones, launching mobile and community care centers for the underserved and opening imaging centers in our communities.

“Whatever your position or situation, I urge everyone to utilize Sentara’s benefits to go back to school for something you are passionate about,” advises Jean, who was honored with a 2014 CEO Award and a Key Contributor award. “The support you will find on your journey will enrich your career and life.”

Reflecting on the last two decades, Jean is extremely grateful to her fellow team members for their unwavering support. “Through all the difficult times, Sentara was there for me in so many beautiful ways it would take days to explain how meaningful it was,” Jean says.

Outside of work, Jean taps into her creativity for personal projects. She enjoys crafting, making homemade greeting cards, painting landscapes and creating charcoal drawings. You can also find Jean on Amazon as a self-published author of two books!
