Amanda Boone: Creating Community Through Care
Amanda Boone’s passion for taking of care of people could have taken her into many professions, but she always felt that healthcare chose her.
“For me, the healthcare profession always felt right because of the people,” she says. “My amazing team members make me feel like I belong. Working together with them to make an impact on each other and our communities is what I get up for every day.”
Amanda has been with Sentara for 4 years and has taken every opportunity to grow and better herself to achieve her goals. By leveraging the tuition assistance program, she is currently finishing her bachelor’s degree and hopes to get more involved in the fast-paced world of data analytics.
“Learning is my greatest passion, so I appreciate the fact that there are so many ways to improve my skills and advance within Sentara. The only sad part is that means many of our team members are often moving on to other exciting opportunities on other teams!” — Amanda
As a Care Coordination Technician, Amanda’s job in healthcare could be described as “behind the scenes.” But she knows that every job, small or large, makes a difference at Sentara and says the support positions that can sometimes go unrecognized at other places are truly appreciated at Sentara.
Amanda, a Virginia native, enjoys spending time in nature, especially near bodies of water. She lives in Roanoke and spends lots of time with her family when she isn’t working or binging the latest popular TV show.
“Family means a lot to me and I appreciate that Sentara has the same values,” she says. “When my family and I were going through difficult times, the emotional support we received at Sentara was critical, but the financial assistance from the HOPE Fund quite frankly saved us. Being a part of community that shows up for others during times of hardship can make a world of a difference to anyone.”
