Interacting with different people every day is Galo Calle’s favorite part of his job, and he feels lucky to be able to do it in a variety of environments.
“As a Radiology Tech, I am needed in a lot of departments,” explains Galo. “From the emergency department to the operating room and everywhere in between, I get to work with physicians to diagnose and treat patients. No day is the same as the last, even though they all seem to start at 7:00 am!”
Galo feels his work at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital provides a sense of purpose because of the difference he makes in people’s lives.
“I not only help with imaging and diagnostics, I get to chat with and comfort patients, which means a lot to me,” he says. “But I also feel a real connection with my colleagues at Sentara and I value the time we spend celebrating achievements and lifting each other up.”
Galo enjoys playing soccer and cycling around Hampton Roads, his home for more than 20 years. In fact, he is so active he has needed three knee surgeries since working at Sentara.
“Sentara’s benefits really make it easy to take care of yourself and get back on your feet,” he says. “While recovering, I always felt very supported by my team and my managers.”
Galo says that the satisfaction of helping his community is reason enough to continue at Sentara, and he’s already planning for the future.
“I am really hoping to get involved in training programs in the near future,” he says. “Sentara always emphasizes training and continued education and I have a lot of experience and knowledge to pass along to the next generation of technologists.”
