From Monarch Butterflies to MRIs, Crystal Spicer Cares for All
“We’re all here for the same reason, to take care of people, to make a difference in someone’s life in that way.”
Crystal’s respect and care for the lives of others extends to the most fragile of beings: butterflies. She built a large outdoor butterfly enclosure with small plants that allows her to release butterflies as they mature. But, due to the number of eggs, caterpillars, and chrysalis (cocoons) she fosters at one time, she often uses supplemental pop-up enclosures in her garage.
“This way I can put similar size (age) caterpillars together and not overcrowd,” she explains. “There have been times that I have had a full outdoor house and 6 pop-ups going in my garage at the same time!”
Crystal tracks her Monarch butterflies as far as Mexico and Southern California. It’s one of her many passions outside of Sentara. Watch her story
