Nursing

‘This is the only job I have ever loved.’

Unit coordinators are known to wear many hats and since Leigh-Ann Rideout started working for Sentara 15 years ago, she hasn’t stopped adding to her collection. After losing two jobs near her hometown of Franklin due to downsizing and a plant moving to another state, Leigh-Ann decided nursing would be a much more stable job and one that would allow her to help people directly.

Not only has nursing been a steady and secure position, but it’s also provided Leigh-Ann with much joy in working with her patients and loyal teammates.

“This is the only job I have ever loved,” says Leigh-Ann, Unit Coordinator at Sentara Obici Hospital. “The environment of belonging my teammates and I continuously cultivate not only helps us put our best foot forward each day but also creates a place where our patients can achieve their best possible health outcomes. That’s our goal for every patient who enters our unit.”

Leigh-Ann was able to earn her BSN degree with help from Sentara’s tuition assistance and leaning on her co-workers.

“My unit is so strong because we rely on each other. Becoming unit coordinator and leading these folks while also supporting and advocating for them has been a true honor.”

Outside of work, Leigh-Ann enjoys photography and has even documented wedding day celebrations for some of her friends. She also likes to camp and explore new places, particularly places that bring her to the ocean. Leigh-Ann lives in Franklin and on top of trying Hubs peanuts, which she considers “the best peanuts in the world,” she also suggests visiting Fred’s Restaurant and ordering the club sandwich!
