If you need to get something done in the customer service department at Sentara, odds are you’ll be pointed in Teresa Deloatch’s direction. She is the multi-talented fixer who is not only a great person to know in her department, but a fierce advocate for her patients and their families.
The last thing our patients and their families want to do during a difficult time is sit on the phone with their insurance providers,” she says. “I am proud to be able to help navigate that maze on their behalf and help patients understand their eligibility, coverage and payment options. It’s important to me that they can focus on getting healthy and being with their loved ones.”
Since joining the Sentara Healthcare Patient Accounting team in 2017, Teresa has taken advantage of Sentara’s tuition assistance program to attend classes at Norfolk State University where she received a Certificate for Paralegal.
“I love my job here and the benefits are great for me,” she says. “On top of that, my team makes everyday fun. We love to keep morale up by doing dress-up days with crazy hats or favorite sports teams and keep morale up by recognizing each other’s achievements and hard work.”
Outside of work, Teresa is involved in her community of Portsmouth. She has worked as an Election Officer there for the past 8 years and she volunteers with The Salvation Army Red Kettle Program and Food Pantry. She is also working to build a mentoring program in her community for girls aged 10-17.
She’s also a bit of a daredevil: “I have ridden in a NASCAR at the Darlington, South Carolina racetrack and went 130 MPH! Recently, I went indoor skydiving for my birthday, and soon I hope to go to Suffolk Airport and go sky diving for real.”
